The Garden

(participant reads)
A summary of Genesis 1 & 2:
Come back to the beginning.  When there is nothing else.  Only GOD.
It is dark.  The breath of God hovers over the surface of empty waters.
With unrivalled imagination and immeasurable power, God speaks and the world begins. It all appears.  Just as God says.
God makes the light, so that there is a time to be awake and a time to sleep.
God makes a space between the heavens and the earth and calls it sky.
God makes the dry ground and covers it with trees and plants.
God tells the oceans where to start and where to finish.
God makes the stars, the sun, and the moon, and places them in the sky.
God makes the fish, and they swim in the water; and the birds, and they make the sky their playground.
God makes all the animals, big and small.
And then God says: “Now let Us conceive a new creation - humanity - made in Our image, fashioned according to Our likeness.  And let Us grant them authority over all the earth — fish, birds, all the animals and creatures on the earth.”
God makes people.  First a man, then a woman.  God forms the man from the dust, putting breath into him.
When finished, God looks over everything that has been made, and God sees that it is very good.
All the details of Heaven and Earth are complete and perfect.
God rests.

(guide reads)
This story reveals that our world begins in the heart of a Loving Person. The original intent of all that we experience is formed in love.

Take a piece of modelling clay and shape your own creation.  As you do, consider the following statements:

I am a reflection of the person of God.

I am given responsibility to care for what God has brought about.

It’s so easy to take for granted the moments when everything makes sense.
The sun warming your back on a brisk day.  The melody of birds dancing in the air.  A bright flower bobbing to the tune of a gentle breeze.
The laughter of friends.  The thrill of competition.  The joy of creating.  The satisfaction of work completed.  The invitation of challenge and risk.

When experience and circumstances so clearly align with how we wish them to be.

In taking these moments for granted we forget the nature of the gift they are, and perhaps the source of the gift.

Place your sculpture in the space provided, and consider the love your Creator has for you.
