FOR SMALL GROUP GUIDE
The following video provides some orientation for leaders seeking to guide a group through the experience:
FOR HOST TEAM
We're excited that you've chosen to host this SoulWalk group experience! Below you'll find all you need to know in setting up the space for your group to experience the story of God. A good picture to have in your mind as you prepare is that you are a CURATOR - you have the needs of group members in mind as you set up their walk-through experience. We are providing some prompts for resources required, and supplied, but you're encouraged to think about what you might add or remove from the space to further enhance your group's experience (eg. ambient music, lighting).
Group members can access the reading and instructions online (intro station link can be found below). You might choose for one person to access the content on their device and everyone else listens in, or each person can read along on their own device. Either way, we encourage each group to read through the content together.
Introduction Station
This station is the entry point into the experience. If you have a designated room, you might like to set the station sign up outside the door of the room.
RESOURCES REQUIRED - each group will have the option of watching the short intro video we have prepared. You might like to set up a large screen for the group to view, or alternatively it can be watched using a personal device.
RESOURCES SUPPLIED: The following link provides the signs to identify each station. It is recommended to use at least A3 sized paper for printing.
Station 1 - The Garden
Here your group is introduced to the creation narrative, and invited to reflect on the experience of creating through a simple sculpture.
RESOURCES REQUIRED - each group member requires a palm-sized portion of modelling clay or play-doh.
RESOURCES SUPPLIED - an example of an image representing a flourishing garden.
Station 2 - The Tree
Group members are invited to reflect on the story of Adam and Eve and the serpent in Genesis 3. This will involve each group member holding and biting into an apple.
RESOURCES REQUIRED - one apple for each group member.
RESOURCES SUPPLIED - an example of an image representing a significant tree.
Station 3 - Sabbath
This reflection prompts people to think on the practice and purpose of Sabbath - particularly in light of their own work practice.
RESOURCES REQUIRED - a table to present the sabbath cards
RESOURCES SUPPLIED - this link provides access to a number of cards with images representing work - four per page for printing and trimming. It is recommended they are printed on A4 card.
Station 4 - The Cross
Participants are invited to reflect on two stories here. One tells of Mary washing Jesus' feet, and the other is the narrative of Jesus' death on the cross. Group members are invited to kneel at the cross and receive (collect) a scented cotton ball.
RESOURCES REQUIRED - One scented cotton ball per group member (presented in a bowl for ease of collection). It is recommended that the cotton balls are prepared with perfume beforehand - a sandalwood scent will provide an authentic aroma, lavender is also good.
RESOURCES SUPPLIED - the links below provide the image of a cross in a variety of sizes. A larger version is recommended for scale, but it will require more work in trimming and glueing! An example of an image is also provided to represent the story.
Station 5 - Leaves
In light of the resurrection, group members are now invited to reflect on the theme of the tree of life from Revelation 22. This reflection involves participants trimming a leaf, colouring it in, and attaching to an image of a vine attached to a wall.
RESOURCES REQUIRED - coloured markers and blutac (or sticky-tape).
RESOURCES SUPPLIED - The links below provide an image of the vine to be attached to a wall, and the leaves - print off as many as your group requires.
Wrap-up
As each group moves on from a station, they can be encouraged to leave the space as they found it if there are groups behind them. Upon completion, it might also be important for your group as a whole to interact and speak out their learnings from the experience.
At the conclusion of this walk-through experience, a prompt is provided for people to explore our 'SoulWalk Pathway: RECEIVE'. We have provided a poster for promotion, and a link is also available for each person at the end of their experience.
